Advanced Conversation Management: Utilizing The Idea-Focused Approach in Clinical Practice
A Psychosocial Approach to Helping Clients Reduce Reactivity and Avoidance
Presented by Dr. Aneesah Muhammad, Psy.D., M.B.A.
Description: In this advanced clinical workshop, Dr. Muhammad moves beyond basic communication skills to provide a deep dive into the mechanics of conversation management. Introducing The Idea-Focused Approach, a psychosocial approach that helps clients regulate their emotions before a difficult conversation.
The Idea-Focused Approach is my proprietary approach used to help clients de-escalate emotional volatility, bypass defensive avoidance, and prepare for difficult conversations before they have them. Participants will learn how to guide couples, families, or high-conflict groups through intense dialogue with less anxiety and more ease.
Who This Is a Good Fit For:
Mental Health Professionals: Licensed clinicians (LCMFTs, LCPC/LGPCs, LCSW-Cs, Psychologists) looking to sharpen their facilitation skills with highly reactive couples, families, or polarised groups.
Clinical Supervisors: Those supporting junior therapists in client avoidance and reactivity in the room.
Workplace Consultants: Professionals who manage organisational conflict and need a structured framework for facilitating difficult executive or team dialogues.
Social Workers & Case Managers: Anyone working within complex systems where avoidance often stalls progress.
